This is a genuine historic Cattle Ranch located at the foot of the spectacular Bighorn Mountain Range. The ranch consists of three units:
THE HOME RANCH is nestled along Red Canyon Creek, right at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains; a well improved and well managed ranch with lush irrigated meadows and fields which spread across the valley floor, surrounded by native range land and BLM (public land) grazing allotments, all part of the ranch operation and holdings.
IMPROVEMENTS include a very comfortable 1843 sq.ft. ranch style home, a log horse barn, assorted outbuildings, working corrals and a newly constructed steel and concrete feedlot which has running water throughout the several pens. There is a spring-fed water system throughout the place for livestock water. Red Canyon Creek flows through the length of the ranch, providing plenty of water for livestock and irrigation. Fields are well improved with two center pivot irrigation systems and gated pipe which is part of a well designed flood irrigation system on the remainder of the meadows. Both pivots are pressured by a gravity flow pipe line which avoids the higher cost of pumping to achieve water pressure.
THE FARM,located a few miles from the Home Ranch, consists of excellent high producing irrigated fields, a nice 1½ story ranch home, modern shop, machine sheds, a steel grain bin and a single wide mobile home to house ranch labor.
THE SOUTH RANCH consists of 1,142 acres of deeded land and is surrounded by another BLM grazing permit. The deeded acreage consists of approximately 231 acres of good irrigated farm land, with the balance in native vegetation including some sub-irrigated grazing land.
RANCH PRODUCTION: The combination of the three units of the Red Canyon Ranch operation provides ample feed for the 238 pair cow herd, for wintering the calves plus growing field beans and alfalfa as cash crops. The operation sold 1,000 tons of surplus alfalfa hay as cash income in 2009.
RECREATION: RED CANYON RANCH is located in the heart of some of the best outdoor recreation to be found in the West. The Bighorn mountain range is home to extensive elk and moose herds. The foothills around the ranch are home to antelope, whitetail and mule deer. The irrigated fields abound with pheasant, chukkar partridge, turkey and seasonally with many migratory ducks and Canadian Geese, to the extent that habitat is maintained through proper ranching practices.
PRE-HISTORIC TREASURES: The Home Ranch is the site of the recovery of dinosaur fossils. There has been recovery of several nearly complete dinosaurs, for which the ranch claims ownership and a partnership in the excavation.
